Support this show!

This entry is going to be quite simple and straight to the point...watch "An African City!"  As indicated by the show's Facebook page, the show is about five beautiful, successful African females who return to their home continent; the show is set in Ghana but the ladies are from various African countries.  The ladies share the triumphs and difficulties of the transition in a way that is fun, witty, and helps to answer all the questions that many of us ask ourselves every time we wonder how it would be to pack up and return to the continent. I laughed, found myself intrigued, and simply enjoyed the story lines, not to mention the fashion and the way they are showcasing some of Accra’s hottest spots!  Oya go and watch!

Thanksgiving Dey Around the Corner--Wetin Dey Your Table Top?

Oya Africans come and report yourself regarding what will be on your Thanksgiving table.  Just imagine, you people have come here, they said there is something called Thanksgiving and that we should eat turkey and mashed potatoes and apple pie but oh no, not my pipu.  We need jollof, kenkey, kelewele, omo tuo, fufu, gari foto, stew, shito, chin-chin, and all our other African accouterments (I know this word is not for food but I go fi use am anyway) before we know we are celebrating Thanksgiving.

To top it off, they said season the turkey with just a little salt and pepper but oh no, my pipu must grind ginger, onions, pepper, and all our seasonings otherwise "e be ye nyan (it will have a raw taste)!"  LOL

Who am I kidding, I just listed my Thanksgiving menu and seasonings...lol

Oya, report your Thanksgiving menu!

Using Twittter to Bring Peace to a Kenyan Village

Eish my pipu,

Looks like somepeople are not just using Twitter for gisting...Chief Francis Kariuki (@Chiefkariuki), a Kenyan chief is using the social media outlet to foil robberies, prevent latrine drownings, recover stolen livestock, and much more!
Chief you force waaaa...great job and great example!
Link to the Article

So what about Twitter use throughout Africa?

According to an article in the Guardian, Kenya has one of the highest levels of use on the African continent, so the Chief has made a great choice indeed.  There is also a really great map that illustrates Twitter use across the continent (to the left). Check it out!

As for my Ghana peeps, UP YOUR GAME!  Haba!  We are barely a blip on the African TwitterVerse.  Oya, add Tweeting to your texting and Facebooking.

Okay ohhhh, I am going to go Tweet about this post.

New terms--VIM SWAGG

In fact, I have come up with a new term-- #vimswagg

I was talking to my girl @AIDgirl and we were talking about the level of vim we all applied to the Atlantic Lobster issue and then it came to me...we applied much vim so we are on our #vimswagg

So Vim Swagg means you are on you are on your grind and you handle your business with much vim!  So handle your schoolwork, job, business, etc. with #vimswagg

BTW, vim mean force...so if you apply vim to something it means you apply energy and force to something!

Use it but oya give me credit!!!

Atlantic Lobster Closed!

Per a reliable source in Ghana, the whites-only establishment has been closed....apparently the police, immigration and Minstry of Tourism were on the scene.

Racism in Ghana...Errrrrrm, My Pipu Tell Me This Is Not True!!!

When it's coming, it's doing...

WHITES ONLY CLUB IN GHANA

I am actually going to reserve my rant until I confirm from my peeps living in Ghana that this is true.  Charley if this is true we better get to action to stop this nonsense!  Not that I would be surprised because certain groups in Ghana have long acted as if they are superior because of skin color. Can you imagine?!?!?

Here is the link: Oya Check This Link

My pipu, the vim we use for other things better be applied to bringing this mess to light and putting a stop to this ASAP!

Ehhhh...we don reach Slovenia

Ok, further proof that there is no corner of the world that you cannot find a Ghanaian.  Greenland oh, China oh, Cuba oh, Turks and Caicos oh, we dey all those places and we dey represent well-well; going to school, working hard, raising productive kids, not embarrassing your family, etc.--you know, all that stuff they told you when you were about to board  the plane at Kotoka!  That is of course with the exception of "those ones"...you know the ones I mean--those ENIMGUASIFUO!

Anyway, as I was saying, Chaley, the Slovenians have elected a son of the Gold Coast as mayor (Click to see the story).  We throwey salute to Dr. Peter Bossman who according to CNN "beat out an incumbent Sunday to become the first black mayor in Slovenia's history, securing 51.4 percent of the vote in a run-off election."

Ehhh Dr. Bossman you have done well, in fact I will dance to "Memma me Wrenfi"  in your honor (the song says I will not forget what God has done for me--see below).

So when will you invite us all for fufu celebration?  Just saying...

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the NPP Candidate for the Next Presidential Election

According to Peace FM Online, Nana Akufo-Addo has won an "overwhelming victory in today’s election."  Peace FM goes on to say that the "response of Ghanaians at home and abroad have been extremely exciting, cheerful and confident with strong indications that the [New Patriotic Party (NPP] re-electing one of its biggest political assets of the Busia/Danquah/Dombo tradition as our Presidential candidate is poised to recapture the power we lost nauseatingly and unnecessarily to the NDC in 2008.

So for those who have no idea what is going on, this means that he will be NPP's candidate for the next presidential election in Ghana, which will occur in 2012.

Okay ohh, don't say I have never given you the latest filler...Later!

Afihyipa Pa Ohhh (Happy New Year)--2010 Version

My Pipu, enjoyment has kept me away for some time but I am back.  I wish each and every one of you a happy and prosperous new year.  You should be thankful to God (yes ohh, I said God.  I know we are in a world where we cannot mention His name anymore but African pipu still call on Papa God openly so me too I go call on my Jehovah Jireh, my Elohim, my El Shaddai, my Jehovah Rophe, my Adonai, my Ebenezer, my Jehovah Nissi, my Jehovah-Tsidkenu, and all His other names).  Thank Him.  If for nothing else, some people you started last year with, did not make it to the end of the year.  Some people made it but not with all their faculties.  So thank God for your life and your well being because if you have life, you have HOPE!  So, my Dears, dance along with this song and declare material and spiritual prosperity this year.  Amen ohhhhhhh!!!

P.S. The song is titled, "Bebre" and it literally means plenty.  The song says that God has done so much (plenty) and all thanks and glory belong to Him. Enjoy:)

P.S.S.  I almost attached the movie "Abuja Connection" instead of the song--multitasking or multislacking will do that to you.  That would have been interesting though.  LOL

Public Service Announcement (PSA)…Loofah is not Sapo

Ok, so I am in need of a new sapo.  Sapo [for my Americanos or faking Johnny-Just-Comes (JJCs) aka the people who landed yesterday but all of sudden do not know what fufu is], is an Akan term for a net-like material that we use to bathe—it is reminiscent of the poof you get with some body washes but is a bit more coarse, is long enough for back washing, and gets the job of cleansing and exfoliating done more effectively.  We call it “sponge” but technically it is not actually a sponge.  In any case, we have been exfoliating way before it was called exfoliating ohhhh, we just called it adwariee (bathing); why do you think most Ghanaian and/or African women/people have such smooth skin.  You better ask somebody!!!  P.S. ignore the guy in your chemistry class with ashy feet; he is not a good example.  But I digress…so while I await my Sapo shipment, I decided to go to Wal-Mart and purchase a Loofah in the interim because I cannot neglect my exfoliation regimen.  Well, let me tell you, Loofah is not equivalent to Sapo.  Chaaley, talk about 419.  First of all, the thing swelled when I wet it and then when I tried to add soap to it, it just seemed to absorb the soap so I had to apply soap several times, wet the shege again, and then scrub quickly before the soap disappeared.  Bathing has never been such a production!  Then to top it off, I must have scrubbed too hard because my skin was burning after I finished (user error?!?!?).  Chaaley, I was heated.  Then what makes me even distrust that loofah shege even more is that it can stand up on its own.  Ehn?   Sapo is supposed to hang, supposed to exfoliate but not burn your skin, and is not supposed to stand.  Let me tell you, I was giving that thing the side eye as I stepped out of the shower.  So my people, if you need to replace your sapo, make arrangement prior to losing the sapo or before it becomes unusable, otherwise, you will find yourself in my crazy predicament.  Then again, you might be one of the people who just use a washcloth.  Ehhhh, America has helped you.  My friend, get a sapo and wash your body well (dwari yie ohhhhh) and stop the Abrofo Sem.

P.S.S. I will post pictures when I get home so you can actually see that thing standing up.

End of PSA!
